Do you speak your truth?

Let that question sit with you for a minute.

When was the last time you gave voice to your dreams or fears?

How often to talk about your beliefs?

Or, what about just speaking out loud about how you feel about where you are in your life?

I’m worried that we are losing the ability to speak our truth.  It seems that we’ve buried our individual truth under a desire for comfort, safety and harmony.

Now, take a moment and think about the answer to these two questions:

  1. What is the worst thing that’s ever happened to you as a result of speaking out loud a truth that you were afraid to say?
  2. What is the best thing that’s ever happened to you as a result of speaking out loud that truth you were afraid to say?

Maybe your experience is different than mine, but I have found that the good that comes of speaking truth outweighs the bad by a wide margin.  The bad is never as bad as you think it will be.  We build up the bad in our minds (letting our Lizard Brain take over as Seth Godin would describe it) to the point where we are paralyzed.

Truth will set you free.  It has for me, over and over.  Speak it.

Try it.  Start small.  Start to speak out loud some of those truths you are afraid of that are lower stakes.  And say them to the people who matter.

If your experience is like mine, you will be surprised by how powerful the truth can be to transform your life for the better.
