The human brain is fascinating.  And, if you are a student of human behavior or you desire to be a great leader, studying the brain and how it works is a great (and critical) practice.  The brain is essentially the computer system that controls our bodies, behaviors and emotions.  Understanding how this computer works and why it works helps demystify some of the things about humans that can be perplexing (and sometimes frustrating).

Recently, a friend who knows of my interest in the brain recommended that I watch a Ted video by Jill Bolte Taylor called “My Stroke of Insight.”  I’m not sure how I hadn’t come across this video or her book before, but I digress.  Dr. Taylor is a brain scientist who had a fairly massive stroke years ago.  In this Ted video, she describes her experience during her stroke and what it taught her about brain function.  It’s a profoundly fascinating and moving video.  I’d recommend that you set aside 20 minutes to watch it.
